In the history of Tibetan exile, Odisha Phuntsokling Settlement is recognized as one of the foremost Tibetan settlements in India. Phuntsokling Tibetan Settlement, Chandragiri is in the state of Odisha, South-Eastern part of India. The genesis of this vibrant community traces back to 1963, with the establishment of Camp No. 1, marking the beginning of the resettlement of Tibetan people. Coinciding with this pivotal moment, under the auspices of the Central Rehabilitation Committee (CRC), the inaugural Tibetan school emerged, heralding a new era of formal education for Tibetan children in the settlement.
As the Tibetan population burgeoned in the settlement, necessitating the formation of Camp No. 3 in 1964, so did the demand for education within the community. In 1965, responding to this need, our institution took root within Camp No. 3, guided by the Tibetan Schools Society (TSS) under the aegis of the Indian Government. Here, children were nurtured in both Tibetan and English languages by educators appointed by the Government of India.
Nestled near the majestic Elephant Mountain on the western fringes of Camp No. 3, the school found its physical manifestation in a modest yet purposeful structure. Comprising four rooms, three designated for classrooms and one for administrative purposes, this humble abode became the nurturing ground for generations of Tibetan youth.
Today, Sambhota Tibetan School, Lobersing, stands as a bastion of education, imparting a blend of Traditional and Modern Education alongside invaluable Social Emotional Ethical Lessons, in alignment with the principles outlined in the BEP and NEP 2020.
Prior to 2016, our school operated under the aegis of the Central Tibetan School Administration (CTSA), bearing the name C.S.T. Lobersing Branch School. However, on the auspicious day of 3rd July 2016, the torch of stewardship was passed to the Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS), ushering in a new chapter in our institution’s illustrious journey as Sambhota Tibetan School, Lobersing.
