This educational institution was not built in a day. The wheel of Gothangaon School started rolling in the year 1972, soon after the establishment of Tibetan Norgyeling settlement commonly known as Bandara Settlement in Gondia district, Maharastra state. After seeking asylum in India, His Holiness the great 14th Dalai Lama has steadfastly focused on providing education to young Tibetan children. Likewise, in many parts of India under the guidelines of the ministry of human resource and development (MHRD) bestowed separate schools for Tibetans managed by the Central Tibetan School Administration (CTSA) under the MHRD government of India and our school is one amongst them. Since its inception, the school has achieved the twin objectives of providing modern education and preserving the distinctive Tibetan culture, language and tradition.
The school is geographically situated at the remote and hottest climatic condition in central region of India in Maharashtra state, distance of 160 Km from Nagpur city, well known as an orange city of India. The school is natural and tranquil institution away from the din of city which fosters an ideal educational environment for both students and teachers. It is located between Tibetan camp No. 238-239 and beside the school compound large water canals flowing toward western part of region which is prime source of water for all the living beings around, especially for farmers.
A vast land within the campus has been planted with variety of trees and medicinal plants providing a healthy environment for students. We place immense importance on extracurricular activities along with tradition and values, for a child to grow into a successful and virtuous human being. In empowering student to take on active roles in their own progress, we uniquely engage them while promoting a culture reinforcing the joy of lifelong learning.
On 1st July, 2016 Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS) took over the administration and management from the Central Tibetan School Administration (CTSA). Currently, the school is managed by the Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society under the Department of Education (CTA).
The main stream education is provided to children from Pre-Primary to Primary level and strives to implement the aims and objectives of Basic Education Policy (BEP) for Tibetans in exile determined in 2004. Soon after that ventured to take a very significant step in turning to the Tibetan language as the medium of instruction from class I to V.
